Since 2011, Christopher has served as 1. Solo Cello of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival Orchestra. He is regularly invited as guest principal cello with orchestras internationally and even appeared as soloist at the 2024 Gstaad Menuhin Festival, performing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations.
He began his orchestral career after completing his studies at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, first joining the cello section of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, then taking up the position of 2. Solo Cello in the Sinfonieorchester Basel.
Chamber music has always been central to Christopher’s musical life. He gives regular duo recitals with piano and spent seven years as the cellist of the Amar String Quartet, Switzerland. He appears frequently at chamber music festivals, performing with internationally acclaimed artists, most recently at Festival Klassiek in Zeeland.
As a teacher, Christopher is invited as professor of cello at the British Isles Music Festival, where he also acts on the board of directors. He teaches privately and has given masterclasses at institutions including the China Conservatory of Music (Beijing) and the University of Santiago (Chile), and has coached the Asian Youth Orchestra.
Christopher is the founder and director of Rhein Klassik.
