Christopher Jepson

After finishing his studies at the renowned Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler”, Berlin, he spent two years in the cello section of the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra, Berlin, and afterward took up the position of 2. Solo Cello in the Sinfonieorchester Basel. 

Since 2011 he is 1. Solo cello of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival Orchestra, is invited regularly as guest principal cello in Orchestras internationally, and in summer 2024 he performed Rococo Variations as soloist at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival.

Chamber music is Christopher’s greatest passion. He frequently gives recitals with Piano, and for 7 years he was the cellist of the Amar String Quartet, Switzerland.  

He is invited to perform in numerous chamber music festivals, performing alongside members of the Belcea, Alban Berg, Jerusalem, Artemis and Stradivari Quartets to name but a few, and most recently he has performed both as chamber musician and soloist at Festival Klassiek, Zeeland.  

As a teacher, Christopher was professor of cello at the British Isles Music Festival, England, from 2016-18, where he is still on the board of directors.  As well as teaching privately, he has given masterclasses in the China Conservatory for Music, Beijing, and The University of Santiago, Chileas well as being invited to coach the Asian Youth Orchestra. 

Christopher is the founder and director of Rhein Klassik.
